Cleaning A 3D Printer

3D Printer Cleaning Wipes & Supplies

BOur 3D Printing Wipes & Cleaning Supplies have applications across a wide array of 3D printing environments from hobbyists, to commercial production environments, to some of the worlds most advanced 3D bioprinting laboratories & research facilitates. We offer critically low-linting and high performing 3D printer wipes compatible with virtually every type of 3D printer including: Polylactic Acid Filament (PLA), Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), Stereolithography (SLA), Digital Light Processing(DLP), Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Selective Laser Melting (SLM), Electronic Beam Melting (EBM), Laminated Object Manufacturing (LOM), and 3D Bio Printers. In addition, we serve a number of diffrent segments within the 3D Printing Industry including consumer goods, healthcare, medical plastics, commercial products, automotive, medical device, aerospace, pharmaceutical plastics, food processing, biotechnology, and the molding industry.

Cleaning 3D Printer Nozzles

Read about cleaning & wiping a 3D printer extruder nozzle and you will almost always see “paper towel” as one of the materials needed for the job. Unfortunately, paper towels are not designed or engineered to stand up to a task like this due to their low tear strength, reduced solvent compatibility, and high particle shed which can lead to contamination issues. For cleaning & wiping 3D nozzles, we recommend a high quality, absorbent, and low shedding polycellulose wipe like Pro-Wipe® 880 to do the job right.

Cleaning 3D Printer Beds

When it comes to cleaning 3D printing beds, careful attention and the right materials for the job are essential to minimizing the risk of damaging the surface of your 3D print bed. Often cotton balls are recommended due to their softness for abrasion sensitive surfaces. While cotton balls are soft, they are not designed to stand up to a cleaning task like this, which often leads to decomposition of the cotton balls and excessive fiber shedding. For cleaning 3D printer beds, we recommend a high quality low-shedding polyester or cotton wipe such as EcoClean® 35 or Choice® 900. In addition, we offer pre-saturated isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipes that are also well-suited for the job and provide increased convenience & consistency compared to using bottled alcohol and other solvent solutions.

Finishing & Post-Processing

If your 3D printing production or manufacturing process requires cleaning, smoothing, polishing, or the finishing of your 3D printed objects, we have wipes for that too! Our wipes & swabs have many useful applications for 3D printed end-products including smoothing rough edges, polishing, pre-paint, surface preparation, and other finishing related activities. For these types of tasks, the right solution can vary depending on the specific application. Knitted polyester & cotton wipes are excellent solutions when it comes to solvent compatibility, high tear strength, and softness. For all cleaning and finishing applications that call for a “paper towel”, we recommend a nonwoven polyester-cellulose wipe as a much better solution for the job. Pre-saturated isopropyl alcohol wipes can also be used for post-production sanitizing as well.
