Our BCR® Cleanroom Socks are meticulously designed to meet the stringent cleanliness requirements of cleanrooms and other controlled environments. They are engineered to minimize the risk of fiber shedding and particle contamination, ensuring the highest levels of cleanliness and safety for sensitive manufacturing processes and operations.
The primary source of contamination in pharmaceutical facilities is the human presence in cleanrooms. To minimize this, the range of cleanroom clothing has been expanded, with the latest addition being the requirement to wear cleanroom socks before entering Grade C and Grade B cleanrooms. This change is outlined in the updated EU GMP Annex 1, issued in August 2022. The regulation states that outdoor clothing, including everyday socks, should not be worn into the changing rooms leading directly to the grade cleanrooms. Before entering these cleanrooms, personnel must change into facility suits and new specific cleanroom socks in a controlled-not-classified area. The proposed modification is intended to decrease particulate emissions and microbial load within the changing rooms. Ultimately, this will lead to a reduction in contamination levels being transferred to and within the cleanroom suite.
The decision to include cleanroom socks is based on the need to prevent microbial contamination on the feet and the external surfaces of personal socks from previously worn shoes. Additionally, fresh cleanroom socks help to minimize the release of moisture and reduce potential risks associated with home socks and foot health in sensitive environments.
