Our Choice® Cleanroom Socks have been specifically crafted to adhere to the stringent cleanliness standards of certain controlled environments and cleanrooms. They are purposely engineered to minimize the risk of particle contamination and fiber shedding, ensuring the highest safety and cleanliness levels necessary for susceptible manufacturing processes and pharmaceutical operations.

In pharmaceutical facilities, human presence is a primary potential source of contamination in cleanrooms. To address this, the range of cleanroom attire has been adjusted, with the latest change being the mandatory use of cleanroom socks when entering Grade C and Grade B cleanrooms. This requirement is detailed in the updated EU GMP Annex 1, released in August 2022. According to the regulation, outdoor clothing, including home socks, is prohibited in the changing rooms leading directly to the grade cleanrooms. Before entering these cleanrooms, personnel must change into facility suits and don specific cleanroom socks in a controlled-not-classified area. The proposed update aims to reduce particulate emissions and microbial load within the changing rooms, leading to lower contamination levels in the cleanroom suite.

The decision to introduce cleanroom socks is rooted in preventing microbial contamination on the feet and the external surfaces of personal socks from previously worn shoes entering clean spaces. Furthermore, using fresh, cleanroom socks is not just a recommendation; it’s a necessity that helps minimize the release of moisture and mitigate potential risks associated with everyday socks in sensitive environments. This ultimately contributes to improved foot health and, more importantly, to maintaining the highest cleanliness standards in pharmaceutical facilities.
