Back in February, Berkshire wrote an article, “What do chickens and cows have in common?” The answer was bird flu (H5N1). Well, chickens are back in the news as a company in California is recalling 1,700,000 dozen (20,400,000) brown cage-free and brown certified organic eggs because of potential Salmonella contamination.
The company’s “internal food safety team is also conducting its own stringent review to identify what measures can be established to prevent this situation from recurring again. We are committed to addressing this matter fully and to implementing all necessary corrective actions to ensure this does not happen again.” 1
Please read Berkshire’s Technical Brief, “Auditing Conformance to Standard Operating Procedures”.
Conformance Auditing Basics
This Technical Brief presents an overview of:
- Standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- SOP auditing benefits and limitations.
- Preparation and execution of a conformance audit.
- Cleanroom maintenance.
- Proper wiping techniques.
Whether you are manufacturing a precision semiconductor component or a brown egg, contamination results in the same expensive and disruptive results. SOPs provide the “rules of the road” for cleaning protocols, and audits provide reassurance. Contact Berkshire for a review of your current contamination control SOPs.
